Creating an Earthworks Extent

Workflow to create an earthworks extent for your model

The earthworks extent tells Level AI where it can excavate the ground. No ground outside the earthworks extent will be adjusted. It is important to get the boundary of the site right such that neighbouring areas are not touched.

How to add

Select the earthworks extent from the Allsite.ai ribbon

Draw a closed polyline around the site. Hit esc/enter to close it automatically. The Allsite schema gets added as extended data. This also adds the object to the defined layer.

Things to remember:

  • Ensure the earthworks extent is at least 7 feet within the Existing Surface boundary, this gives Level AI the necessary information to tie in elements such as roads.

  • Road Alignments/Corridors snap to the earthworks extent, note - the roads will attempt to make tangential connections based on the existing levels in the existing surface just outside the earthworks extent (unless alignment tangent overrides are applied).

  • Give a decent amount of room between elements such as road corridors and the edge of the earthworks extent, this gives Level AI room to tie-in levels (or add a grade break along the edge of the earthworks extent).

Multi-stage Earthworks

You can have multiple earthworks extents in your model, this allows tallying up of earthworks volumes. Balance across earthworks stages can be controlled by setting the Stage number, multiple stages can have the same number - e.g. Earthworks Phase A and Phase B can be set to Stage=1 and Phase C can be set to Stage=2 - this will balance Phase A and B together separately from Phase C.

Stage Numbers must start from 1 and be consecutive (if left blank, assumes stage 1)

Hand-off between stages can be controlled with "Bulk Import" and "Bulk Export", this tells Level AI how whether there is some extra fill (ie from offsite) that needs to be lost in a particular stage when Level AI balances or vice versa.

Extended Attribute Fields

Description

ID

A text identifier for the stage

Stage Number

The earthwork stage

If blank assumes stage is in stage 1

Bulk Import

Specifies the amount of bulk fill to bring into the stage. Level AI will attempt to balance the stage accounting for this import.

Bulk Export

Specifies the amount of bulk fill to export from the stage. Level AI will attempt to balance the stage accounting for this export

Cut to other stage

Tells Level AI to target cutting a specified amount of fill to another stage

Fill from other stage

Tells Level AI to target bringing in a specified amount of fill from another stage
